Garrett List & Orchestra Vivo ! release a video with an ode to peace
Garrett List and the 30 musicians of Orchestra ViVo ! come together for peace with a new video for the 2017 International Jazz Day.
The video is based on a song by Garrett List with words by Judith Malina’s magnificent poem "Thoughts on the Oxymoron Military Intelligence". It was recorded at the Théâtre de Namur, last January, with 30 senior year students of the Institut de la Providence in Champion (Namur, Belgium). They were joined by the residents of the local Red Cross Center.
A true ode to peace, this text highlights the escalation of violence that is provoked by the use of weapons and exposes the absurdity of living in fear of our brothers. The students had no prior training in performing arts; they then experienced learning and acting the song. But the real benifit was to understanding the tensions of today’s world and what art can contribute and transform in these circumstances.
